RAWALPINDI: Outgoing military chief General Raheel Sharif Tuesday formally handed over the command of the army to Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa in Change of Command ceremony at the Army Hockey Stadium in Rawalpindi.
In the ceremony held close to the General Headquarters (GHQ), General Raheel Sharif handed General Bajwa a command stick that symbolizes the transfer of control of Pakistan Army.
General Sharif was accorded a Guard of Honour by smarty turned out contingent.
Address the event, General Sharif said it was an honour for him to serve world’s best army. “I commanded a brave army which is a great honour for me.”
He paid tribute to the martyrs and sacrifices rendered by soldiers in the operation Zarb-e-Azb.
“I’m thankful to Allah who gave me a chance to demonstrate my capabilities and meet the demands of my office. Throughout my service, I gave priority to the national interest and utilized all out energy of myself and the army. In this regard, for which I enjoyed support of the nation and the entire military. I’m thankful to them and hope that Pakistan Army will meet aspirations of the nation.”
With the change of command, General Bajwa will become 16th army chief of Pakistan.
The change of command ceremony was attended by federal ministers, services chiefs, diplomats and senior serving and retired officers.
The newly appointed Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Zubair Mahmood Hayat and the outgoing CJCSC General Rashad Mahmood also attended the ceremony.

Marching bands of Pakistan army played tunes of army and national songs representing culture of all the four provinces.
Earlier, General Raheel Sharif visited Yadgar-e-Shuhada (the monument of army martyrs) at the GHQ. He laid floral wreath and offered Fateha.
On the occasion, he was accorded guard of honour by a smartly turned out contingent.
